Mech Sketch

GLHF with the homework

Click to place joints, roughly where you want them. Then select geometry to constrain and dimension it.

Welcome to Mech Sketch

Figures for mechanics homework, drawn the way a CAD sketch is: roughly first, exact afterwards, and then into LaTeX.

  1. Draw. On the Sketch tab, pick Line (L) and click to place joints, roughly where they belong. Circles, arcs and beams are there too.
  2. Constrain. Press a constraint such as Horizontal or Equal, then click the geometry it applies to. Blue lines can still move; they turn black once nothing about them can.
  3. Dimension. On the Annotate tab, press Dimension (D), click a line, middle-click where the dimension should go and type its value. The drawing follows the number.
  4. Annotate. Supports, axes, arrows, notes, fills and hatching are on the Annotate tab as well.
  5. Check and export. Q shows the figure as it prints. Export saves it as SVG, or as TikZ for LaTeX.

Your sketch is kept in this browser; Save writes it to a file to keep, or to take to another computer. A short tip appears the first time you pick up each tool. The question mark in the top right brings this page back; the speech bubble beside it is for reporting a bug or suggesting something.

Across and Up keep the row level or upright with a constraint. The spacing is yours to set afterwards: drag a copy, or dimension from a point to its copy.
